Project Type

Residential, Community, Demonstration, Educational, Permaculture Local Group Transition Town Permablitz, Legal

Project Summary

The general aim of Association is the support and promotion of the permaculture development in Ukraine. We want to unify the efforts of those who have already successfully apply permaculture techniques in their households and to give them an opportunity to share experiences and support newcomers on this way. Our mission is to spread knowledge and promote the idea of permaculture in society. Permaculture is a world view principle, therefore when teaching permaculture it’s important to provide correct and comprehensive understanding of its principles and the teach how to use them in everyday life. Thus, we are going to establish the School of Permaculture in Ukraine in order to provide permaculture teaching at a high level driven by international standards and taking into account local conditions and needs.

Project Description

Press-release of the NGO "Permaculture in Ukraine"

Permaculture is the principle of creating human settlements and agricultural systems that are based on environmental knowledge and nature laws. The principles of permaculture focus on intelligent design small-scale intensive systems that are effective regarding the work unput and use biological resources instead of fossil fuel. Founded in the seventies of the last century by Australians Bill Mollison and David Holmgrein, permaculture has spread worldwide and recognised worldwide, demonstrating its effectiveness in different climates and areas. Permaculture Association of Ukraine is a non-governmental non-profit organization established to promote the dissemination of ideas and practices of permaculture in Ukraine.

Aims

The purpose of the Associationunions is the comprehensive support of permaculture: to tell, to show, to teach and to support. The last includes creation the network of the  for permakulture demonstration sites and running projects which can offer their products (e.g. ecologically friendly food and other goods, green tourism infrastructure, permaculture design service, workshops and seminars) demonstrating the permaculture in action to anyone interested. Our goal is to connect producers with the customers directly avoiding the third parties, what would make the goods and services produced in sustainable way more accessible and affordable.

Permaculture Association of Ukraine will promote using of the permaculture tools to solve various ecological, social and economical problems  in Ukraine, based on the international experience where similar problems were successfully slowed with the use of permaculture design. In particular, it is the recovery of depressed villages through the establishment and support of the small farms, stimulating the activity of the local communities, regional development through strengthening connection within the bioregions and creating production and economical cycles within the regions etc.

Tasks

  • To create an NGO ‘Permaculure Association of Ukraine’.

  • To establishing the national school of permaculture: a series certification permaculture design courses in cooperation with the leading international schools, such as the the coordinator of the permaculture Education Project in UK George Sobol (the first two courses has been condacted in 2011 and 2012 yers). Creating a base (equipment and network of collaborators throughout Ukraine) for the summer schools. Support of the permaculture diploma education.

  • Creating a web site - a platform for presentation and promotion of the permaculture movement in Ukraine.

  • Running the monthly information bulletin.

Membership

Membership in the Association should be affordable to anyone who is interested in the permaculture development in Ukraine. Members of the Permaculture Association of Ukraine should be given the opportunity to have their own web page on Association Internet portal. Association members will elect and could be elected as the project leaders and in Association administration. The school of permaculture will provide the material base to the members to conduct the permaculture educational activities. In addition, Association bulletin is a common resource for the information distribution about the projects and achievements of its members.

Legend of Badges

Note: The various badges displayed in people profiles are largely honesty-based self-proclamations by the individuals themselves. There are reporting functions users can use if they know of blatant misrepresentation (for both people and projects). Legitimacy, competency and reputation for all people and projects can be evidenced and/or developed through their providing regular updates on permaculture work they’re involved in, before/after photographs, etc. A spirit of objective nurturing of both people and projects through knowledge/encouragement/inspiration/resource sharing is the aim of the Worldwide Permaculture Network.

PRI Teacher

With the exception of the ‘Member’ who has never taken a PDC, all of the above can apply to become a PRI PDC Teacher. PRI PDC Teachers are those who the PRI recognise, through a vetting board, as determined and competent to teach the full 72-hour course as developed by Permaculture founder Bill Mollison – covering all the topics of The Designers’ Manual as well as possible (i.e. not cherry picking only aspects the teacher feels most interested or competent in). Such teachers also commit to focussing on the design science, and not including subjective spiritual/metaphysical elements. The reason these items are not included in the PDC curriculum is because they are “belief” based. Permaculture Design education concerns itself with teaching good design based on strategies and techniques which are scientifically provable.

PRI PDC Teachers may be given teaching and/or consultancy offerings as they become available as the network grows.
