Today in Iran like so many other countries the number of people who are able to provide their own nourishments and food ingredients is very small. Pursuant urban spaces expanding and industrial life and capitalism, city residents in their modern life style, don’t really think about food production processes. Among these crowded city life, there is some people who started to think a little deeper, and maybe out of curiosity they have started to travel and explore more and more and seeking for the reason of this distance between their life and the real life. EcoFarmTourism likely is one of the best solution to discover this aspect of life for now a day societies. Unfortunately in Iran, which is located in the fertile crescent, EcoFarmTourism hasn`t been promoted and developed yet. Traditional skills and methods of farming and agriculture in Iran are really vast and different and some of them are rare permaculture methods. Qanat Irrigation system in Iran is one of the best example of the incredible water engineering by our ancestor which is barely but still using in desert area of Iran. Recently FAO announced it as one of the Globally Important Agricultural Heritage Systems (GIAHS). Therefore we come up with the idea of Promoting Permaculture by developing EcoFarmTourism in our Country.
Traditional skills and ways of agriculture in Iran are still remained in rural areas. The 1st phase of the project is to discover and collect the traditional farming and agriculture skills as a Local Permaculture methods and intangible heritage of our land. Permaculture will help us to accord and adjust local and traditional farming and agriculture methods to sustainable methods. Also by discovering existing traditional agricultural practitioner we are able to improve their practices to Permaculture. In the other hand sustainable and environment-friendly lifestyle in Iran will be promoted step by step. 1-Discouver: Since there is no previous research and executed projects on this subject, for the very first step we are researching, discovering and collecting our various and traditional farming and agriculture methods and skills. 2-Train: Some of the traditional farming methods in Iran, are in conflict with the environment. Permaculture is one of the best methods to reduce environmental loss and save energy and money. In this step, in a community based and participatory environment, farmer`s works will be facilitated by permaculture principals. 3- Built: Every single traditional farms of our network (up to 10 farms for the 1st phase) will be ethical with permaculture methods (depends on each farm`s variety). They will be equipped for EcoFarmTourism purposes as a way to promote Iranian version of permaculture. Therefore sustainable development will be attained in various aspects. 4- Maintain: Making the network of EcoFarmTourism is one of the most concentrated ways to communicate and share with each others. Therefore guests and volunteers from all over the world can come and experience this kind of sustainable lifestyle. In this way, EcoFarmTourism benefits (fair income, human resources/volunteer, peace and …) can give farmers enough motivations to stay in their permaculture methods.
Note: The various badges displayed in people profiles are largely honesty-based self-proclamations by the individuals themselves. There are reporting functions users can use if they know of blatant misrepresentation (for both people and projects). Legitimacy, competency and reputation for all people and projects can be evidenced and/or developed through their providing regular updates on permaculture work they’re involved in, before/after photographs, etc. A spirit of objective nurturing of both people and projects through knowledge/encouragement/inspiration/resource sharing is the aim of the Worldwide Permaculture Network.
MemberA member is a permaculturist who has never taken a PDC course. These cannot become PDC teachers. Members may be novice or highly experienced permaculturists or anywhere in between. Watch their updates for evaluation. |

PRI PDCPeople who’ve taken a Permaculture Research Institute PDC somewhere in the world. |
|
PDC TeacherPeople who claim to teach some version of PDC somewhere in the world. |

PRI TeacherWith the exception of the ‘Member’ who has never taken a PDC, all of the above can apply to become a PRI PDC Teacher. PRI PDC Teachers are those who the PRI recognise, through a vetting board, as determined and competent to teach the full 72-hour course as developed by Permaculture founder Bill Mollison – covering all the topics of The Designers’ Manual as well as possible (i.e. not cherry picking only aspects the teacher feels most interested or competent in). Such teachers also commit to focussing on the design science, and not including subjective spiritual/metaphysical elements. The reason these items are not included in the PDC curriculum is because they are “belief” based. Permaculture Design education concerns itself with teaching good design based on strategies and techniques which are scientifically provable. PRI PDC Teachers may be given teaching and/or consultancy offerings as they become available as the network grows. |
