Permaculture Education, Research and Demonstration Settlement in an arid landscape focussing on Ecosystem Restoration, Regenerative Farming and Community Development.
The PermaPuebla Initiative is a non-profit organisation whose aim is to run a Permaculture Research Institute on a 136Ha site in Tabernas, Spain. The site is a degraded, semi-desert area at a height of over 400m with rains varying between 175mm and 475mm per year, which fall in a couple of torrential rains. The site features two farms and a central valley, it is off-grid yet has wells and generators on site to begin work with.
The PPI Tabernas/Spain and its community are guided by the Permaculture ethics (caring for the land, caring for the people, and reinvesting in their development) and the principles of Regenerative Agriculture and Regenerative Business. All the activities on the land are task-oriented following a master plan, and managed holistically.
The PermaPuebla Initiative's main objectives are;
1. Regenerating the landscape and ecosystem of the site and collaborate with locals to restore the surrounding area.
2. Establishing a functional and profitable arid lands demonstration farm and an education/research centre.
3. Creating a Foundation to support regenerative projects.
Thanks to our regenerative business we will be able to secure the lands and support a foundation which will serve as the guardian of the property. The PermaPuebla Initiative serves as the active partner that interacts with various supporting organisations that are involved with desertification issues at a local, European and Global level.
The motto of the PermaPuebla Initiative is,
"Practice the Change you want to live in this world"
Note: The various badges displayed in people profiles are largely honesty-based self-proclamations by the individuals themselves. There are reporting functions users can use if they know of blatant misrepresentation (for both people and projects). Legitimacy, competency and reputation for all people and projects can be evidenced and/or developed through their providing regular updates on permaculture work they’re involved in, before/after photographs, etc. A spirit of objective nurturing of both people and projects through knowledge/encouragement/inspiration/resource sharing is the aim of the Worldwide Permaculture Network.

PRI TeacherWith the exception of the ‘Member’ who has never taken a PDC, all of the above can apply to become a PRI PDC Teacher. PRI PDC Teachers are those who the PRI recognise, through a vetting board, as determined and competent to teach the full 72-hour course as developed by Permaculture founder Bill Mollison – covering all the topics of The Designers’ Manual as well as possible (i.e. not cherry picking only aspects the teacher feels most interested or competent in). Such teachers also commit to focussing on the design science, and not including subjective spiritual/metaphysical elements. The reason these items are not included in the PDC curriculum is because they are “belief” based. Permaculture Design education concerns itself with teaching good design based on strategies and techniques which are scientifically provable. PRI PDC Teachers may be given teaching and/or consultancy offerings as they become available as the network grows. |
