5 Acre Demonstration site zoned - Rural Residential.
Developing a place where people can see permaculture in action on a medium scale. Workshops for education will be run to provide empowerment to many people.
This property has 2 huge ponds and a 30ft geodesic hothouse in place... Already growing Banana and papaya, cranberries, many perenial herbs and vegetable - these are automatically watered from the ponds by solar powered reticulation system. This will be developed into a large aquaponic system and the main nursery.
A small yurt overlooks the main pond - is good for camping out but not ready for habitation yet. Plan is to move close and work from afar till the main shed/house is built to lock up. THEN the artistic license can commence.
Plans are being finalised for a shed & house under the main roof with eco loo, solar power, reed bed grey water system, wood fire stove and cob oven - a fire pit also will be built in stone.
Main crop zone will be built to contour.I have an 'ampitheatre' patchwork quilt design of colour and diversity planned. This will be aesthetically appealing. Included in the design is an extensive medicinal herbery. We will make our own soaps, salves and medicinal remedies.
Trout are already in one pond. 5 types of frog, purple swanp hens, wrens and robins live in the thick brush at one pond end, where the bee hives will be placed for protection form the wind.
A 3m x 3m storeroom/pantry is planned off the kitchen to accommodate the additional preserves and dried foods.
I will set up a Chook tractor (have chooks and electric netting already) and rabbit breeding program (have 2 rabbits so hoping these will breed like the proverbial...)Little hutches, nesting and roosting boxes are already built.
Pigmy goats, geese and ducks are also on the plan.
A small swale tree growing system will be implemented in time.
Note: The various badges displayed in people profiles are largely honesty-based self-proclamations by the individuals themselves. There are reporting functions users can use if they know of blatant misrepresentation (for both people and projects). Legitimacy, competency and reputation for all people and projects can be evidenced and/or developed through their providing regular updates on permaculture work they’re involved in, before/after photographs, etc. A spirit of objective nurturing of both people and projects through knowledge/encouragement/inspiration/resource sharing is the aim of the Worldwide Permaculture Network.
MemberA member is a permaculturist who has never taken a PDC course. These cannot become PDC teachers. Members may be novice or highly experienced permaculturists or anywhere in between. Watch their updates for evaluation. |

PRI PDCPeople who’ve taken a Permaculture Research Institute PDC somewhere in the world. |
|
PDC TeacherPeople who claim to teach some version of PDC somewhere in the world. |
|
PRI TeacherWith the exception of the ‘Member’ who has never taken a PDC, all of the above can apply to become a PRI PDC Teacher. PRI PDC Teachers are those who the PRI recognise, through a vetting board, as determined and competent to teach the full 72-hour course as developed by Permaculture founder Bill Mollison – covering all the topics of The Designers’ Manual as well as possible (i.e. not cherry picking only aspects the teacher feels most interested or competent in). Such teachers also commit to focussing on the design science, and not including subjective spiritual/metaphysical elements. The reason these items are not included in the PDC curriculum is because they are “belief” based. Permaculture Design education concerns itself with teaching good design based on strategies and techniques which are scientifically provable. PRI PDC Teachers may be given teaching and/or consultancy offerings as they become available as the network grows. |
