As Izmit Municipality, we had a study visit to the Permatürk Foundation in Beykoz, Istanbul, in October 2022. After receiving detailed information from the foundation officials, we examined the application area.

Regarding the subject, our four personnel received permaculture training for approximately 3 months between January and April 2023.
In November 2022, an area of 60 square meter, which corresponds to approximately half of the area of the natural life garden of our municipality, was closed and turned into an office. Solar Energy System and Wind Energy System’s switchboards were placed on the roof of the office. In addition, the rain gutters were reworked and rainwater was stored in a 5-ton tank. We placed the main pipes of the drainage and drip system on the floor of the 600 square meter area at the edge of the office. Water from the drainage was combined in the rainwater tank. 8 large and 8 small raised gardens were created in the area. Soil improvement works were carried out in the remaining area and grass was planted. A natural pool of around 6 square meter was built by our own staff. Additionally, a compost area consisting of 2 sections was built.
Many practice materials related to permaculture, combating to climate change, zero waste and sustainability were created inside and outside the building. Many equipments such as Bokashi compost buckets, black soldier chest, worm chest, biochar stove, pellet stove, mulch machine were purchased and made ready for training. Inside the building, there are visuals consisting of models and materials made from waste, as well as recycled materials collected from the field turned into raw materials. Explanatory panels about permaculture and zero waste were placed alongside the visuals which are depicting the effects of climate change. A projection system has been installed in the office, where three large tables and at least twenty five people can comfortably receive training. In addition, informative and applied trainings are provided for the preparation of raised gardens in the allocated area, the use of the rotational planting system, the use of heirloom seeds, and plant protective species.
As of 28.09.2023, our permaculture training and practice area has been opened to visitors to our public.
