Spring 2016
Been a quiet winter on the farm.... just before winter we had 4 ponds put in, two dams fixed and a couple of water harvesting swales which we have sown with clover, cow pea and now as it gets warmer the fruit trees can go in. The ponds and dams are all full, and the first of the spring lambs are here....
the subtropical food Forest was added to in autumn and we have what we now call affectionately 'spikey alley' full of finger limes and pineapples... which we hope to inrease over time. We have used the many volcanic rocks around the area to form small walls behind the plants to help release heat during the evenings and night... time will tell if it works. A few bananas are in, and a couple of sugar canes as well going great guns.
I have my first design project, feeling very excited and slightly nervous... an awesome place in Helensville with a couple of lovely owners who are happy to be my first clients... will post photos soon.
At home the garden is being re designed and is currently under a couple of sheets of black plastic... hope to kill off the kaikuya... and the grass. No more lawns!
