Residential
Changing a residential perennial garden of flowering trees and shrub with a functional ground cover system to a permaculture fruit forest, vegetable garden with chicken, ducks, maybe goats
There are many overgrown flowering shrubs with climbing roses and dog wood that has reversed to an invasive type that needs to be removed. A pond will be dug in a figure of eight in the middle of the property to receive flood water during the winter, as it floods. The water finally disappears as the soils is sand with a clay pan. Many fruit trees has been purchased and planted in pots prior to my PDC. Fruit trees are Apples, Pears, Cherries, Plums, Apricot, Pawpaw Raspberries, black berries, blue berries, gooseberries and strawberries. Schezwan pepper, sea buckthorn. Tansy and worm wood are grown as insect repellent for the chicken coop to ward off mites. Many culinary herbs and comfrey are grown including two nitrogen fixing ground cover plants that has always grown in this garden.I proposed that a wide V ditch is built in bricks or tile so that cars can drive over it through to the bed, a swale will retaining moisture for the bed. This ditch continues across the front of the house to the edge of property to allow water runoff from the lane to flow into a long ditch the length of the property on the north. At the end of the garden is a 3’ (90cm) ditch to receive flood water during the winter. This ditch supports a few frogs and toads and disappears by summer.
