Project: Heartwood Institute
Posted by Lauren Proctor over 9 years ago
Live at Heartwood Institute in beautiful and peaceful Humboldt County. Be immersed in Permaculture; working alongside other teachers, students, and community members. This is an amazing opportunity for the right person to take advantage of living at a site dedicated to research, demonstration and education of Permaculture, while learning of viable solutions for today’s challenges. The opportunities for learning are endless!
The Apprentices will work closely with the Permaculture Directors and staff to help oversee and facilitate the Permaculture Immersion Program students by working with them in the gardens and projects on-site. Additionally apprentices will work on other priority projects when needed, taking on leadership roles and being given proper support for personal success and growth.
Recognizing the best way to learn is by doing, the Apprentices will be doing hands-on service learning with us. Some of the projects we will be collaborating on are Land restoration, Garden and farm maintenance, Infrastructure construction, Repairing and upgrading fencing, Installing water-wise irrigation systems, Building basic farm facilities (composting toilets, solar showers, etc.)
And Much More!
Qualifications:
We are looking for individuals who have some prior experience working within the field of Permaculture, in the farm & garden setting, natural building, appropriate technology, etc. By highlighting your knowledge and previous experience where possible we allow space for growth and deeper engagement in your particular skill set. The Apprentice should feel confident in some fields of study or work on the level of sharing and leading others. We want to be working with people who wish to develop their facilitating and leadership skills during their time here with us. Most importantly, we seek people that are passionate, motivated and love this type of work!
Please go to our websiteto learn more and apply today!

Note: The various badges displayed in people profiles are largely honesty-based self-proclamations by the individuals themselves. There are reporting functions users can use if they know of blatant misrepresentation (for both people and projects). Legitimacy, competency and reputation for all people and projects can be evidenced and/or developed through their providing regular updates on permaculture work they’re involved in, before/after photographs, etc. A spirit of objective nurturing of both people and projects through knowledge/encouragement/inspiration/resource sharing is the aim of the Worldwide Permaculture Network.

|
PRI TeacherWith the exception of the ‘Member’ who has never taken a PDC, all of the above can apply to become a PRI PDC Teacher. PRI PDC Teachers are those who the PRI recognise, through a vetting board, as determined and competent to teach the full 72-hour course as developed by Permaculture founder Bill Mollison – covering all the topics of The Designers’ Manual as well as possible (i.e. not cherry picking only aspects the teacher feels most interested or competent in). Such teachers also commit to focussing on the design science, and not including subjective spiritual/metaphysical elements. The reason these items are not included in the PDC curriculum is because they are “belief” based. Permaculture Design education concerns itself with teaching good design based on strategies and techniques which are scientifically provable. PRI PDC Teachers may be given teaching and/or consultancy offerings as they become available as the network grows. |
