2-Months Hands-On Permaculture Design Certification

August 9th – October 3rd, 2015

Join us to learn hands-on sustainable living skills!

Heartwood's PDC Immersion is a unique program designed to create a hands-on holistic experience of sustainable living, while receiving your Permaculture Design Certification. Learn the theory, ethics & principals of Permaculture and then apply them on a farm-wide scale.  This is an opportunity to learn practical tools to better design regenerative human settlements, and a journey of personal transformation and development.

Here, you can take your learning to the next step. We pair project-oriented learning with structured classroom PDC curriculum to allow space for all types of learners to excel. In facilitating experiential hands-on learning with theoretical knowledge, you will acquire skills to design and create sustainable living environments that provide food, water, shelter and energy while regenerating ecology, community and economy.

Participants spend 2 months living on the land, close to the elements, immersed in the natural world and working closely with it. This is an opportunity to ‘unplug’ from some of life’s other distractions, and dive into Permaculture.
The tuition for the PDC Immersion program includes:
  • Accommodation at Heartwood Institute*
  • Organic meals cooked by students and staff
  • Permaculture Design Course Certificate
  • Certificate of Completion: Heartwood Institute Permaculture Immersion Program
  • Access to Heartwood's community facilities including pool, hot-tub and sauna
  • Approximately 200 hours of hands-on learning
*Basic accommodation is camping on-site. Shared and private cabins are available. If you would like to stay in one of our cabins, please inquire early, we have limited space.  No pets please.
 Tuition: $2,000- $2,500 Sliding Scale*
* As a non-profit organization, we do our best to offer courses at affordable rates. Our sliding scale allows you to pay within your means.

Legend of Badges

Note: The various badges displayed in people profiles are largely honesty-based self-proclamations by the individuals themselves. There are reporting functions users can use if they know of blatant misrepresentation (for both people and projects). Legitimacy, competency and reputation for all people and projects can be evidenced and/or developed through their providing regular updates on permaculture work they’re involved in, before/after photographs, etc. A spirit of objective nurturing of both people and projects through knowledge/encouragement/inspiration/resource sharing is the aim of the Worldwide Permaculture Network.

PRI Teacher

With the exception of the ‘Member’ who has never taken a PDC, all of the above can apply to become a PRI PDC Teacher. PRI PDC Teachers are those who the PRI recognise, through a vetting board, as determined and competent to teach the full 72-hour course as developed by Permaculture founder Bill Mollison – covering all the topics of The Designers’ Manual as well as possible (i.e. not cherry picking only aspects the teacher feels most interested or competent in). Such teachers also commit to focussing on the design science, and not including subjective spiritual/metaphysical elements. The reason these items are not included in the PDC curriculum is because they are “belief” based. Permaculture Design education concerns itself with teaching good design based on strategies and techniques which are scientifically provable.

PRI PDC Teachers may be given teaching and/or consultancy offerings as they become available as the network grows.
