Finally! I am excited to announce that in collaboration with the GREB (Groupe de recherches écologiques de La Baie - La Baie Ecological Research Group)*, a well-established and renown ecovillage dedicated to ecological experiential research in the province of Quebec, I am currently working on the creation of the first permaculture research center in the province.
The Saguenay Permaculture Research Center, a non-profit organization, will be situated in St-Felix-d'Otis, a small village near La Baie, Saguenay, where approximately 50 acres of land (regrowth forest) have been purchased. Said land will be divided into 10 residential lots of 1 acre each (available now for purchase) that will constitute a permaculture-oriented ecovillage, while the remaining 40 acres will be developed according to the whole-systems approach of permaculture design. This development will be coordinated by the research center, which will be located and evolve directly on site.
By working with individuals and communities, we wish to expand the knowledge and practice of integrated, sustainable agriculture and culture using the whole-systems approach of permaculture design. Furthermore, we wish to develop tested, specific methods and techniques that are appropriate in northern, boreal climates.
