Dog Poo

Posted by Jana Hammonds-Jennings almost 12 years ago

Now what? I have lots of questions. I've just read how bad dog poo is for our gardens/food forests.

Do we get rid of the dog? Although I want to move out away from restrictions and have more space, I'm not able to yet. What do I do in the mean time? Quarter off a section of the back yard for our dog? If so, how long before the ground/soil is ok for growing food?

Why is it ok to have a dog in town, which is bad for the soil and gardens and not ok to have chickens, and goats, etc.?

I had one of my sons dig a couple of holes to put the dog poo in. I guess I'll put diatomaceous earth with my dog's food.

Kyle Tengler : I compost it. Compost gets plenty hot to kill any pathogens that you might worry about.
