SUMMER PERMACULTURE CAMP

We just arrived to a native forest land in Southern Chile where there was a functioning homestead forty years ago. We intend to bring back to life the rustic home environment and organic garden that once flourished here. The land does not and will not have urban services. With this goal in mind we will build with renewable resources (wood, earth, native bamboo) and setup an organic garden based living environment.

We are located East of the town of Pucon, a Chilean “lake region” tourist destination. As you move East from the lakes towards the Andes you immediately find a Patagonian thick jungle, wild boars, etc.
We are looking for: people interested in working four days a week and enjoy the beautiful natural setting the rest of the week. We are surrounded by lakes, rivers, native forests, hot springs, jungle, forests of various types, etc. The idea is a Permaculture camp and vacation experience in a beautiful and fun natural setting.

You will need a tent and self-sustaining camping equipment (please ask for equipment list.) We also have access to a covered shelter building nearby in case of continuous heavy rain. We have a small 3 bedroom summer home down in the tourist area nearby (all available by small bus system) in case you catch a cold or need a home-day. The house is near a large lake with beaches, thus you can use it as a home-base for your off-days if you wish. From December to March is Summer here. It could rain often. Some summers are dry, others wet (rain-forest) and there are also sunny hours in the same rainy days.

Within a thirty minute walk we have access to Yoga classes twice a week and dance on Fridays. The property has two streams and is immediately adjacent to a nature sanctuary with three lakes. We are also in the near vicinity to two national parks, and a lake region tourist destination town with Internet, hospital and other amenities. This is one of the planets beautiful and spectacular settings.

We have a list of permaculture projects: a large basic shelter from the rain and cooking area (first project), dry toilets, land clearing (not the trees but the prickly ivys) and building small sealed living spaces in preparation for the winter (50 cm of snow.) We just begun eradicating a non-native forest area and will begin de reforestation design process. There are also native wild berries and medicinal herbs that we will begin cataloging for latter production crops.
That’s about it for now folks :-)

We look forward to sharing with you,

Patagonia Retreat

Legend of Badges

Note: The various badges displayed in people profiles are largely honesty-based self-proclamations by the individuals themselves. There are reporting functions users can use if they know of blatant misrepresentation (for both people and projects). Legitimacy, competency and reputation for all people and projects can be evidenced and/or developed through their providing regular updates on permaculture work they’re involved in, before/after photographs, etc. A spirit of objective nurturing of both people and projects through knowledge/encouragement/inspiration/resource sharing is the aim of the Worldwide Permaculture Network.

PRI Teacher

With the exception of the ‘Member’ who has never taken a PDC, all of the above can apply to become a PRI PDC Teacher. PRI PDC Teachers are those who the PRI recognise, through a vetting board, as determined and competent to teach the full 72-hour course as developed by Permaculture founder Bill Mollison – covering all the topics of The Designers’ Manual as well as possible (i.e. not cherry picking only aspects the teacher feels most interested or competent in). Such teachers also commit to focussing on the design science, and not including subjective spiritual/metaphysical elements. The reason these items are not included in the PDC curriculum is because they are “belief” based. Permaculture Design education concerns itself with teaching good design based on strategies and techniques which are scientifically provable.

PRI PDC Teachers may be given teaching and/or consultancy offerings as they become available as the network grows.
