Project: Permacultura Aralar

On 7-8 July we celebrated our first weekend course about “Introduction to Permaculture”. Saturday was dedicated to the theory, from 10-14 to 16-20 h we discussed several presentations that explain the basics of permaculture, practical cases in the world and here in the country, our own case as example of the evolution suffered, design methods, regenerative agriculture, challenges / opportunities facing us (peak oil, etc.), and how permaculture can help you cope. All the presentations have been made by Permaculture Aralar and are freely distributable (Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0). In the course of this day we answered questions and also distributed about 4Gb of open source docs, including videos, photos and documents to deepen.
The second day was from 10 to 14, and dedicated to visit our project, we explained our process and evolution, characteristics of accomplishments, future plans, encountered problems, etc.. And answered the many questions that arose.

At the end delivered a survey, we really wanted to know the opinion of people to focuse better the content. The perception was very positive, most would recommend the course or attend another one-day workshop on issues of interest. As a point of improvement we were asked to spend more time with experiences of urban permaculture or small areas compared to large projects, as many of the attendees do not have a great piece of land.
Most attendees are from Hondarribia, although some people came from Tolosa area. Some have land or baserri, other orchards and some want to learn more and get started. For the organization have the support of the Association Gure Hegoak , from here our appreciation. The cost of the course was 30 euros.
Our intention with the project is to learn, produce for our family and close environment, spread in Internet all that we learn, our experience. We want other people start trying to do their own projects. And we consider it appropriate to invest a part of our time in giving weekend courses or one-day workshops focused on practice. But isn’t our priority, so if we’ll do more of this activities are very rare and subject to availability. Keep you informed about it.

PRI TeacherWith the exception of the ‘Member’ who has never taken a PDC, all of the above can apply to become a PRI PDC Teacher. PRI PDC Teachers are those who the PRI recognise, through a vetting board, as determined and competent to teach the full 72-hour course as developed by Permaculture founder Bill Mollison – covering all the topics of The Designers’ Manual as well as possible (i.e. not cherry picking only aspects the teacher feels most interested or competent in). Such teachers also commit to focussing on the design science, and not including subjective spiritual/metaphysical elements. The reason these items are not included in the PDC curriculum is because they are “belief” based. Permaculture Design education concerns itself with teaching good design based on strategies and techniques which are scientifically provable. PRI PDC Teachers may be given teaching and/or consultancy offerings as they become available as the network grows. |
